Yung Raja: Singapore’s Tanglish meets Louis Vuitton

Born and raised in Singapore in a family of Tamil origin, Yung Raja puts his identity at the heart of his music. His lyrics move between Tamil and English: this blend, known as Tanglish, reflects how he thinks and expresses himself.

He tells a Singaporean story, shaped by his South Indian roots.

In his tracks, the sounds of contemporary hip-hop meet Tamil musical references. Yung Raja does not choose between his influences: he lets them coexist and builds a singular voice, rooted in his own path. His heritage becomes creative material, able to resonate with audiences far beyond Singapore.

Fashion is another space for expression. The rapper has explained that his first Louis Vuitton campaigns in Singapore, devoted to Virgil Abloh’s collections, marked the beginning of his relationship with the House. In 2024, he was also invited to the Louis Vuitton and Kenzo shows in Paris during Fashion Week. That visit is part of his artistic and fashion journey; it does not mean he has moved to the capital.

Between music and fashion, Yung Raja asserts a Singaporean and Tamil identity without smoothing it out to make it more familiar internationally. His path shows how a distinctive cultural expression can find its place in global worlds, from hip-hop to luxury houses.

Tanglish is not a detour towards the international: it is the signature that makes his voice recognisable.
